Commitment means there's no way back. Most of us, to a degree, have difficulty making big decisions. And, all of us
would like some security that the decision we make is the correct one. In the course of making this decisionI was reminded of two things about commitment:
1) A hesitant commitment decreases energy.
2) Once the commitment is made never, ever look back.
Energy Performance Tip: Any hesitancy in commitment will decrease the energy it takes to create, initiate, and to follow through with a decision. Hesitancy means you have a foot on both sides of the fence, leaving the door open to draw back from the commitment. When there's the possibility of going back the energy to move forward is severely decreased.
I was reminded of the Spanish conquistador, Hernando Cortes - when he and his army landed on the shores of Mexico he made sure his army understood they were all committed. He lined them up on the beach, sent out demolition squads and blew up all the ships. Then he turned to his army and said, "There's no way back, we're here to stay." I would imagine his troops were a little surprised at their commander's actions, but Cortes was showing them that this place was their new home. He didn't want them wasting any energy on looking back. Alltheir energy needed to be focused on moving forward.

Energy Development Tip: Made any commitments lately? How'd it go? Did you blow up the ships so there was no way back? Think about what you hold onto when you make commitments - is it security, possessions, or status - maybe fearful of making a
mistake? As long as we hold on to these things our commitments will never have the powerful focus of energy they need to become reality.
